I
had a great day today. I went over to
Bellagio and sat in an 8-16 holdem, made
$200 in 30 minutes. The room was packed
again with waits for everything, very
friendly staff, great room, great drinks,
definitely my favorite place to play (with
Mirage not far behind). Then a friend
asked if I wanted to go over to the Orleans
for their $60+one $40 rebuy (400, +100
bonus chips for $3, +800 rebuy chips)
no limit holdem. I wasn't keen because
it was no limit, but there again it was
only $100 so I went. It started at 7 p.m.,
they had a record crowd of 140 players
(138 rebuys), I played my best ever no
limit and at 1 a.m. finished 2nd. for
$1900. I'd tried to make a deal when there
were 8 of us left, we would have all got
$1100, but there was one guy who didn't
want to deal. When we were down to three
one guy had huge chips, I and the other
guy (Mr. No Deal) had fairly short stacks.
Then a dream hand came up, AK vs KK, luckily
I had neither of these hands, the other
two did, and Mr. No Deal went out third,
giving me an extra $800 for second. The
very first hand heads up I had 88 Vs JT,
he put me all in and caught a Jack, so
no miracle comeback for me. ighn, but
very pleased that I am starting to get
the hang of no limit.
The
only slight downer to all this is that
I tipped 4%, then when I got back to Binion's
I was talking to someone about the Orleans
tourneys and he said they are a rip-off
because they take the $10 vig, PLUS a
percentage for the dealers (on top of
the $3 for the dealers bonus chip deal?),
well of course nobody told me the tip
had already been taken out, although I
should have wondered because I thought
the prize money seemed low. I fell for
the very same thing two years ago at the
Orleans Open where they didn't let us
know they had taken out 3%, and I tipped
big when I chopped up the first event.
Does anyone know what the deal is with
vig and tip money at the Orleans daily
tourneys?
Back
to Binion's, the 7 stud hi-lo had just
got down to 8 players at 1:30 am. Phil
Ivey is chip leader (57K), Rober Turner
(57K), Sirous (44.5K), John Juanda (42K),
Tom McCormick (37.5K), Brian Nadell (32K),
Rich Gnuyen (25.5K), Nick Hanna (19K).
Things are not going well, today was another
low turnout (126 Vs 164), and the bigger
ring games have diminished too. Tomorrow
is the 3K pot limit holdem so we are starting
to get into the higher priced events now,
but I still think things might pick up
again next week when there are a bunch
of the more popular events, including
the new 1.5K events. I wanted to play
a pot limit satellite, but at 1:30am it
didn't look like they'd get one going
(although they did get a $175 no limit
going just before I left), so I won't
be playing the 3K :(
Neonopolis
opened today, that's the new shopping
mall and movieplex right in the heart
of downtown, I feel an arachnid moment
coming on...
