WPT
With
an estimated 50 million players in the
United States, the nation's most popular
card game is about to become the next
major mainstream sport on television,
and the game will never be the same again.
The driving force behind this radical
re-invention of poker is the World Poker
Tour, LLC, a newly formed Los Angeles-based
company.
WPT's
main goal is to widen the audience for
poker by injecting high concept, cutting-edge
television production values into the
wildly exciting world of high-stakes,
upscale, tournament poker. By projecting
poker's true image--a stylish and exhilarating
sport combining cunning, skill, nerve,
and sky high payoffs--WPT will revolutionize
poker in the same way that "Who Wants
to be a Millionaire" revolutionized game
shows.
Founded
in February, 2002, the company is a joint
venture between World Poker Tour CEO,
Steven Lipscomb, an award winning television
creator and filmmaker, and Lakes Gaming,
Inc., whose founder and CEO, Lyle Berman,
is both a "Hall of Fame" poker player
and a successful businessman. Lipscomb
and Berman have built an experienced team
of production and marketing staff which
includes a former Disney executive, an
Emmy award-winning television producer,
an Emmy-award winning set designer, an
Emmy-nominated musician, as well as a
seasoned production manager and an award-winning
sound, editing, and lighting team.
