Reno
Hilton World Poker Challenge - Day 9 &
10
Yesterday
was the official Nevada Split Every Pot
Day (7 stud hi/lo final table, Omaha hi/o
day event). The Omaha hi/lo had about
70 players, that picked up for today's
$540 No limit where they had 120 players.
I didn't play either.
I
didn't play the Omaha hi/lo because it
has been too frustrating for me lately,
too many bad hands beating me and I haven't
quite figured out how to outlast those
players (other than just throwing away
my premium hands). I'll get back to Omaha
hi/lo eventually, I used to do very well
in those tournaments, but no point playing
when I would be going in with a negative
attitude, for now I just stick to ring
games where those beats don't affect me
in the long run.
I
didn't play the No Limit because I played
three $115 satellites without a win, one
I made a bad call, two I played well but
lost with my AJ to an A9 for a huge pot
all in on the Axx flop heads up, and the
other with my SB J9 vs BB Q6 with a J96
flop (Q turn when we were all in, DOH).
The satellites are a great value, they
give us 1000 chips, blinds were starting
at one 25 blind but today changed to two
25 blinds as the satellites were lasting
over two hours, the $115 pays $1060, the
$65 pays $560.
There
are still a few big names here, I guess
they are not so interested in the big
side games and see the value of having
an easier field. The big debate has been
on whether Reno would give in to Tunica
and change their dates, but apparently
not, Reno Hilton announced their dates
for World Poker Challenge III, Jan 4th
- Jan 25th. 2003, so it looks like it's
going to be another big mess for both
places and bad news for poker players
next year.
In
a few days they are starting the $225
entry tournaments (2pm start time), it
will be interesting to see what that does
to the $540 + rebuy events that start
at noon. They picked 2pm so as not to
clash with the evening super-satellite
at 7:30pm, but I think it would have been
a better idea to start at 4pm and pick
up the players out of the main event.
But what do I know.
Today
I took a poker friend over to the Atlantis
buffet after I'd raved about how good
it was, it wasn't, maybe we hit them on
an off day but the selections were all
the cheaper stuff, and most stuff wasn't
that good. Plus we had such bad service
that for the first time in years I left
a 'making my point' tip of 12 cents, I'm
feeling bad now, I don't know why I threw
in the other dime.
