Reno
Hilton World Poker Challenge - Day 7 &
8
The
report for Day 7 is lost in the email.
My dog (if I had one) ate day 7. Day 7
is my day of rest. I got to bed at 5am
so didn't have time for day 7...
Day
7 actually isn't that interesting, I had
two friends who had came up for the Omaha
the day before, then we'd ended up playing
heads up no limit poker in my room until
5am; I kept winning, a very rare occurrence
against these two, so we had to keep playing
until the subspace temporal rift repaired
itself. Day 7 was the pot limit Omaha,
I think they only had about 4 tables because
this was also the day of the seniors event,
I watched Kathy Liebert suffer a horrendous
beat when she re-raised a huge amount
with AKsAQs and got called (an extremely
bad call) by 4668, the 37x,5 turn did
her in and she was never able to recover
from her short stack. The seniors had
167 players, I know this because I had
a 5 cent bet with JohnnyD that it wouldn't
go over 120. I tried to avoid him for
the rest of the day but he finally pinned
me down and I paid him off. I actually
took the day off, had a nice time in town
with a friend, walked along the river,
went to Harrah's buffet for lunch ($10,
a great deal for this place), then went
to see Vanilla Sky because nobody had
warned us not to. I played two satellites
that night, lost them both.
Day
8 was the $540 limit holdem, (180ish entries,
32K first place) that used to be my game.
I literally went down to a chip (100)
and a chair after a bad beat, then recovered
and built it up to 1500 (started with
1000). Then I had my beat of the week:
3 limpers, I called with 88, another limper,
then a raise and everyone called. Flop
was 82K rainbow, I checked to the raiser,
3 callers, I called. Turn was a Q, I checked
to the raiser, then check raised and we
had one caller. River was another Q, I
bet, the raiser raised, I just called,
he had KQ, DOH! The pot was huge, if I
had won that I would have had 4000 chips,
been chip leader and had a good shot at
the tournament, as it was I was now down
to 400. Blinds went up to 50-100 and I
made a move with J9s, would have worked
too if the SB had just mucked his pocket
Aces. IGHN. Last I saw, Miami John was
huge chip leader going into the final
table tomorrow.
Tonight
I took my first shot at the super-satellite
for a seat in the 5K event, they've changed
the chips, you now get 300 for $120, then
multi $100 rebuys for 300 chips whenever
you fall to 300 or less, then an add-on
of 500 chips for $100. This gives a good
amount of play. I came 4th. For $400 (cost
me $220), I considered waiting for third
for $800 but with the $5,400 value (seat
+ $300) of first place it seemed worth
going for it, I'll probably try again.
I then played video poker for only the
second time this week, and hit four deuces
for $210 profit, WOOO!
One
thing I keep forgetting to mention is
the huge amount of play we are being given
in the main events. Most days are 40+
minutes for the first 3 rounds, then an
hour or more for subsequent levels, 1000
chips to start. The blinds start small,
either 10-15 or a single 25 blind. Each
tournament is designed (using the calculation
ability of TEARS) to last 12 hours the
first day, and 5 hours for the final table,
so far they have been right on the money
most days. I have heard that Tunica is
only giving 500 chips and much faster
rounds, anyone know if that's true?
If
you don't play blackjack you probably
won't understand the punchline to this
story...There is just one table in the
whole tournament area that has a large
notice on it saying 'no eating at this
table'. Every day, out of all the empty
tables, this is the only one where two
or three people can be found eating. My
friend asked someone we know at the table
why he was eating there, he said he had
been grandfathered in.
Tomorrow
is the $540 7 stud hi/lo, this is the
same as the earlier $330 watching paint
dry contest, only they are using the upgraded
paint. I'll be sleeping.
