Reno
Hilton World Poker Challenge - Day 11
The
British are coming, the British are coming.
Today at the final table of the $540 no-limit
hold'em event there were two (or maybe
three) English blokes. This was the longest
ever final table, started at 4pm, was
scheduled for about 4-5 hours, and was
only down to 5 players at midnight! Then
three went out fast (Tom McEvoy was one
of them) and I headed off to bed with
two still left, 32K and 16K left to play
for, I don't think they had made a deal.
They have finally put up the bleachers
they had last year, makes it much more
exciting to watch when a crowd has gathered.
I
played in two $115 satellites today and
redeemed myself from yesterday's 3 losses
by chopping first place in both for a
nice profit for the day. They didn't change
the format so we still start with 1000
chips and one 25 dollar blind, this gives
a huge amount of play, one of my satellites
lasted 100 minutes! With me new found
wealth I'm even thinking of playing the
pot limit holdem tomorrow (that's my game...
:) ) but it's $540 + multiple rebuys,
a bit out of my league and I don't want
to play if they don't have a decent sized
field as I seem to do much better when
the field is large. The problem will be
if I go in deciding not to rebuy, that
will put me at a disadvantage.
Rick
Da Voice will be broadcasting live from
Reno Hilton at the final table of the
final event, the broadcast is being presented
by cardplayer.com, they sent me their
animated banner ad today so I'll be displaying
it on the clock when I can, now I'm hoping
they will offer some prizes. Talking of
advertising, a few people asked me to
display their ads where they were offering
discounts to the poker players on goods
or services, but were not offering prizes
up front. Although this is something I
will try to cover in the future (by having
rotating ads that just appear for a few
seconds at a time), I wasn't able to re-negotiate
a deal with Hilton for this tournament
as I had already made a promise that I
would only have real sponsors offering
actual prizes (with about $500 minimum).
Sorry guys, especially you Frank, hopefully
next time...
Paul
