Reno
Hilton World Poker Challenge - Day 6
Well
apparently I was wrong, not ANY four cards
can win, I didn't play very well in today's
$330 Omaha hi lo, had one bad beat and
was short stacked, then went for it with
a medium hand that had lots of potential
on the flop, but none on the river. There
were about 200 players so that was good,
but it will be interesting to see how
many we have once the bigger events start
up, rumor has it a large group of Europeans
will be arriving for the pot limit next
week.
The
sponsor today was Oasis Casino and Resort
in Mesquite, NV, they gave away two prizes
of $120+100 entries to an upcoming tournament,
plus a free room for the week, plus there
were some smaller prizes.
Satellite
action was fast and furious, they had
4 or 5 going constantly tonight, don't
know what brought on the sudden flurry.
I did OK in those, chopping one for less
with JohnnyD who had me 2 to 1, splitting
one evenly, and losing two for a slight
profit for the day. I got to meet quite
a few rgpers too, even watched Bob Skutelsky
(sp?) win a satellite.
A
very interesting situation arose at the
final table of the 7 stud hi/lo. Andy
Gamboa and Christina (?) checked a hand
down in the dark to the river, except
Andy (in last position) made a full house
with his last card. When they turned them
over Tom McEvoy (I think it was him) protested
that they had soft played each other,
and Andy was given a 20 minute penalty,
that's a heck of a long time when there
are only four (I think) players left.
I spoke to Andy tonight and he gave what
seemed like legitimate reasons for checking
it down (he has a pair of 5s, she had
a pair of 6s showing, plus he didn't have
a low). Of course they can't allow slow
playing and collusion but I think in this
case it may have been borderline that
there was anything going on. Anyone know
any more about this incident?
My
tip of the day is to not go for all you
can eat sushi with friends when it is
only the friends having the all you can
eat sushi; it turns out you finish your
chicken teriyaki long before they finish
their sushi, plus you get dirty looks
from the sushi chef.
Tomorrow
is the Omaha Pot limit $540 + rebuys,
and also the seniors no limit holdem event
(it's like a normal event except they
have nap breaks every 20 minutes) with
the vig going to charity.
