World
Poker Open - Day 20
Started
the day at the Gold Strike like I start
every day there, driving through the front
parking lot by the very huge American
flag. On a windy day it looks exquisite,
especially when it's reflection is viewed
off the golden windows of our 29 story
hotel tower. It never ceases to swell
up the pride I feel for our country and
our people.
At
the finish of today's action there were
only 27 left out of the the 80 that survived
the first day. Got to see very little
of the action. Was called in early to
take over for our downstairs day shift
supervisor and acting manager Terry Hale
whose little girl was sick and had to
leave to tend to her. Came into three
games and left at 3:30 with three games
still going.
While
I was downstairs tending to the room,
Henry Nowakowski came strolling by on
break from upstairs. He told me his chip
count was about 40K. He said that the
"name" players don't intimidate him like
they do the others. He mentioned breaking
Chris Ferguson yesterday who verified
this with me later saying Henry has taken
significant chips from him in three major
tournaments recently. Henry's self described
style is that of showing no fear of going
broke. He really likes to shove 'em into
the center of the table. Later during
another break Henry told me he was up
to 80K. Wow this could be his time I was
thinking. But he was nowhere in sight
when they quit after reaching the final
27. Jack McClelland in the elevator told
me, "He had 80,000." Stressing the word
had. I really like Henry, so friendly
and personable. If he made the final table
he'd be a lock to have the most chips.
His problem is getting there with his
style of play. Mr. Chipmover, Henry Nowakowski.
Got to talk to Wendeen Eolis today, who
made her first appearance of the tournament.
Chided her about missing most of our tournament.
However what she'd been doing seemed a
better choice of her time and talents.
(Maybe we can get her to fill us in on
all the specifics of her job).
Finally
Travis Jonas our day shift dealer and
toke committee member is 17th in chip
position at 30,600. If he makes the final
table I think it would be great to have
him dress in his dealer whites sitting
in the dealer box. Introduce all the other
players first and then after his intro,
he gets up and puts on a pullover sweater
and sits down in his seat. The possibility
of a toke committee member handling his
own toke just strikes me as very funny.
Go Travis.
