WSOP
2003 Days 30 & 31:
Having A Super Time, Wish You Were Here
Yesterday
I got a free seat in the $225 super, it
only cost me $250. I had to play five,
you heard me, of those $50 sat-sats to
finally win one. The last two days it's
been all about the super satellites, the
place is absolutely packed with main events
running, supers all day, a final table
going, plus the cameras crews have just
shown up to kick the plugs out from my
clocks again and set up their equipment.
They are now expecting over 700 for the
main event, three supers running a day
(an 11 p.m. now), they gave out about
12 seats in the 4pm today and probably
at least that tonight in the 8:45, from
which I just busted out. There were over
300 players, I got down to about 50 (with
no rebuys) then made a terrible mistake.
I won't bore you with the details, but
the gist of it was I knew I was up against
AA or KK, and I called anyway. Ugh. I
have two more chances tomorrow to get
a seat, otherwise I'll become just another
railbird, from what I've seen that's not
one of the top ten professions to be in.
Even my spell checker wanted to change
it to 'jailbird'.
Today
was Matt Savage's inauguration into the
Tournament Directors Hall of Fame. Several
people gave speeches saying what a phenomenal
job Matt has done this year and last,
which he has, I don't think anyone could
have done better, making it very bizarre
that the latest plan (it's been a badly
kept secret up until now, but was disclosed
during the speeches) is apparently to
have a different TD every year. I have
no idea why, all the people giving speeches
hoped for him to be back next year and
for Binion's to reconsider their policy,
I hope they do.
I have two friends back in town so I think
there will be some more partying going
on, plus the supers, plus I have some
work to do, so it's going to be a very
busy couple of days leading up to the
final event. The excitement buzz is everywhere,
it's been the greatest WSOP ever and it's
about to get even better.
Time to go get a hangover.
