TOURNAMENT
REPORT
Californian
Tom Cawley likely figured
he didnt stand much of
a chance when he found himself
going to the final table
for the Limit Holdem opening
event at the Bellagio Five
Diamond World Poker Classic
with one of the shortest
stacks of chips. But the
Whittier professional whittled
his way through the tough
competition to pass up chip
leader Barry Shulman of
Las Vegas and take first-place
prize money of $56,648.
Shulman,
publisher of the Las Vegas
based Card Player bi-monthly
poker magazine and rated
as one of the top players
around, held on for the
runner-up money of $28,324.
Another Californian, Michael
Longo of Garden Grove, finished
third for $14,162.
A
total of 18 places were
paid from the $141,620 prize
pool. A first-day total
of 146 entries registered
for the $1,000 buy-in event.
