Foxwoods
WPF 10K WPT Event Trip Report: You Play
the Hands... Part 2
Part
Two After Dinner (on day one):
I
am not long for this world unless I get
very lucky or acquire some skill. The I
have 4,200 in chips with blinds of 100/200
and 25 antes with 40 minutes left in the
round until we go to 150/300 and 50 antes.
I have 8 rounds but a tough tough table
that can outplay me, so there's not much
room for experimentation.
There is a gap in my notes but I end round
4 with 4,250 in chips, and round 5 (150/300
with 75 antes) with 4200. But in the meantime
here are some interesting (at least to me)
hands.
I
have Kc9c on the button or late, haven't
seen anything this good in about 2 hours
and think about playing, but I don't (did
I mention how weak I am) fearing a raise,
with no chips to play with and the board
comes KsKdQs9s8c with players dancing and
a healthy pot. D'oh.
I
have about 3700 in chips on blinds of 200/400
antes 75. I have to move soon while people
will still lay down to me, any shorter and
I am getting called and will need a real
hand which I haven't seen in a long long
time. Manny folds and I move in my stack
with A2 suited. Turns on the guy on Manny's
right hadn't acted and he now bets 1,100.
Action is not binding at Foxwoods and the
four seat isn't in my direct line of vision
I fold (and no one labels me an angle shooter)
But to ANYONE paying attention is it obvious
that I am looking for a spot to put my chips
in. Two hands later CF is in the sb and
AM (Alan Miller) the large blind. I believe
CF would rather let a hand go than double
me, and AM is only playing group one hands
so this maybe the spot. UTG limps (don't
know him he replaced Andy Latto) but that
doesn't matter so far this fellow has raised
premium hands and folded when limping to
raises. I power in. It is folded to AM who
says "I gotta call" and his expression is
one of I am probably behind but I ain't
letting this hand go to a short stack. Utg
folds. I stand up put on my coat and say
"it's been nice playing with you all" and
flip over the 5c9c and the eyebrow's raise
at the table. Nobody apparently thought
this weak tight our of her league player
had a move like that in her arsenal. Alan
has QQ. The flop comes with a nine, as I
push my chair into the table I call out
for a 5 and a beautiful, glorious 5 lands
on the river and Alan goes ballistic. And
I just quietly grin inside and probably
a little bit outside too. Alan is still
in "tilt" mode. Saying things like I could
understand on a Tuesday night (weekly tourney
at Foxwoods) but in a 10K event? I don't
mind losing to someone that can play, but
that had to be the worse play ever. I expect
suckouts on Tuesday night. yada yada yada..
He spends the next 90 minutes glaring at
me. The funniest part is Alan would be the
FIRST to make THAT move in my position with
my STACK against the people I put the play
on. I remain silent. He will figure it out
soon enough. (Hopefully tomorrow after he
tilts off all his chips :-) An hour or 90
minutes later Alan moves in his chips to
a raise the the guy to his left (the utg
guy when I moved in with 59) and the guy
looks at him and softly mocks "79 of spades"
I pipe up from the other end of the table
"it was the 59 of spades, thank you very
much" said with a smile. .... He folds and
says "sorry" to me. I may be weak, but he
is picking the wrong person to "run over"
comment wise.
Shortly
after the above hand.. very next hand I
think. I limp with 5 others. Surprisingly
this hand is not raised anywhere before
the flop. I actually limped in mid position
hoping for a reraise to get it heads up.
The flop comes KxQ and Manny makes it 3K
to go. I move in and it is folded to Manny
who must make a decision of putting 5,025
more in. He eventually calls. Can you name
the hands?
Did
you name the hands?Only
telling you since it went to showdown..
But take your best guess before scrolling
down...
.
.
.
.
Ok, I have AK of diamonds and if he played
KQ God bless him, I am shocked to see KT
for Manny. He has been showing very few
hands, playing aggressively and I am very
surprised to see this call. Maybe he was
thinking about the 59 and thought I was
making a play looking like I was now on
a roll? Maybe because I didn't raise preflop
with AK? Maybe because he is a chip leader
at the table? Combination of all those things?
I don't know but I am loving the call. The
board finishes KxQJT giving him two pair,
but I have Broadway. And I have doubled
through twice! (And Alan continues to shake
his head looking like a sad sad puppy, probably
now thinking how horrible I play by not
raising AK)
We see a flop and Junior raises, CF reraises
to 6K and Junior pushes in his remaining
chips for an additional 4,650 decision to
CF on a flop of K high. CF calls. K on turn
T on river and CF takes it will QQ to Junior's
A9. Never play A9 against "Jesus" for all
your chips!
I
am the bb and it is folded around to Manny
who raises to 800 (on 200/400 blinds and
75 antes). I am sick sick sick of him raises
ALL of my blinds and I call planning to
move him off the flop. Flop is JJ8. He bets
2200 and I call. turn is a 7 he bets 4,400
and I call. River makes a club flush he
checks and I move in. He debates for a very
long time. He has seen me do this at the
beginning and take a hand from Junior. He
has seen me take his chips with AK.. and
yes he saw the 59 but that was situational.
He folds. What did I have?
You
want a clue?
?
? ?
? ?
? ?
? ?
I think I played the hand incorrectly I
should have bet less on the river. More
than a teaser, less than all in I can't
bet the pot it is more than I have left
in chips. Now what did I have?
?
?
? ?
? ?
? ?
Can't tell ya, remember I am only giving
information on my hands that go to showdown.
But, what was your guess? (OK, if there
are any guesses in a followup I will answer
this one.. though with the above clue it
should be obvious ;-)
The
2 and 8 seat have turned over twice. The
current occupant of the 2 seat is unknown
to me. The 7 seat is now a local named Eddy.
A guy that is always pulling for me. The
9 seat is a guy by the name of Henry/Howard
Krank (?) who last year made a comment on
my sporadic game of "she can really play
the game when she wants too". He is a combination
of solid tight aggressive. Hard to describe
and comes with a very strong personality.
I end round 6 with 20, 600 in chips.
On
blinds of 300/600 and antes of 100 Krank
raises to 3K in early position. I call and
Eddy moves in (I am either a blind or a
button) Henry calls and now I have to fold.
I didn't write down what I had, but I think
it was AK. KK for Eddy and QQ for Krank.
Somewhere
in here Barry Shulman comes into the 2 seat
and Mickey Appleman is now in the 4 seat.
Barry
moves his chips and begins to bully the
table raising every pot. He does stuff like
raising preflop with 8T and winning pots
with boards of 8cTd4c4d9c.
When
Barry isn't in action Mickey is, he raises
2K preflop and Eddy calls. The flop comes
2d6c3d and Mickey bets 3500, Eddy raises
to 9K. Mickey moves in for 9K more and Eddy
folds.
CF raises to 1600 Alan calls. Alan gets
moved off the hand at some point.
Alan
Miller raises. I move in and Alan debates
and finally mucks JJ face up preflop (as
he glares at me, mis-telling Barry Shulman,
Randy Jensen and Mickey Appleman how I "called
of my chips" with 59.... since he is miss
telling the story I simply say "I'm sorry
you don't understand situation play Alan"
probably should have kept quiet. I take
the pot muck my hand and do not show what
I held (OK, I will give you a break it was
AK).
An
ugly incident transpires between Barry Shulman
and myself concerning the PokerStars rubberband
that CF has around his chips. CF has the
band wrapped around 10K in chips. And the
joke at the table is, if CF breaks into
the starting stack run for the hills. Barry
proceeds to tell me what he thinks and I
proceed to tell him what I think. It ends
with an apology on Barry's part, and sadness
on mine that one of the leaders of the Industry
would act like that in an event such as
this one, or any poker event. The hand itself
ends with Barry surrendering to CF's all
in bet.
Tony Ma has been moved from the 3 seat to
balance a short table, and very shortly
thereafter Randy Jensen comes into the 3
seat.
In the mean time Barry raises preflop to
2K and I don't remember the caller or the
action but the end result is Barry flushes
the turn with the 37 of spades he raised
preflop.
We
go to 400/800 100 antes and I begin the
round with 13,300. Manny raises to 2400
and I fold AJ of spades. The flop comes
Jd7s8d with 3500 bet and called. The Kh
hits the turn with 4500 bet and called.
7c on the river check/check. A5 diamonds
for AM, AK for Manny.
Mickey
Appleman is busted. Don't remember my notes
say Mickey got it in badly on board showing
64AQJ.
Don't
remember when, but Randy Jensen and Chris
Ferguson mix it up on a board with QJ8 ?
K? ? And chips fly. The end result, CF takes
it with a pair of 8's. A8 I think is CF's
hand. Randy then tells CF that he respects
his play, thought maybe he was just a pretty
boy but seems he has game or some such.
Randy is from Colorado and not dependent
on moneys won in poker. It is easy to see
how he and Hoyt mixed it up late in day
two... (the two chip leaders putting all
the money in preflop with 77 and AK from
the blinds). Randy has tried to run over
the table and the buck stopped with CF's
8. Yes, my head is spinning. No, I can't
play the likes of Barry and Randy.
When
I have about 9600 in chips I find XX and
give a visible tell. Then not sure I want
to commit I simply limp. The almost bet
on my part has not gone unnoticed and it
is folded to the blinds, one of which is
Barry. The flop comes QJ8 and Barry bets
out. I cringe and eventually fold. I don't
think he has me beat. I think he is playing
the player. I made a mistake by not raising
preflop and now I don't know if I should
compound that error by calling. It is 17
minutes to the end of day one. I want to
make day two. Do I want to make day two
more than I want chips? It would seem. Maybe
if I stall I can run down the clock and
only need to blind down the last 15 minutes.
Did I mention I am a weak weak player? I
fold. Later I ask CF about the hand and
inquire once I made the initial mistake
should I then call for all my chips? His
answer is yes, you have to be willing to
go broke there, even after your initial
mistake. Did you figure what my hand was
yet? If not it was TT.
It
is the longest 17 minutes of my life. I
want to get away from Barry. I want to regroup
and play my best short stacked game tomorrow
and get lucky. Did I mention I am a weak
player?
The
day ends with 77 players still in action.
Barry Shulman goes down on the last hand
of day one. He mixes it up with Manny and
pushed in all of his chips on a flush draw
with 2 hearts on the flop. Barry holds Ax
of hearts (think it was a 6 but not sure).
Manny goes into a deep think. For a long
time, that's ok with me... tick tick tick,
let that clock wind down... Manny finally
calls with top pair I think. The flush doesn't
get there and Barry the terrorizer is gone,
no worries about drawing his table tomorrow
:-)
