Championship
Event Gets Underway with 97 Players Competing
for $470,450 in Prize Money
The
Championship event was a three day event
with 90 minute levels. Each player was
initially set up with $5,000 in chips
along with an add-on button that entitled
them to another $5,000 in chips that could
be taken at any time within the first
three levels.
Day
1 began at noon with $25-$50 blinds. Play
ended at the fith level. On Saturday the
remaining players will play down to nine
players and return Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
to play the final table.
The
$5,000 buy-in Championship No-Limit event
drew 97 players.
Check

The
following is a list of some of the big
name starters: Mike Laing, Chip Jett,
Danny Negreanu, Scotty Nguyen, David Levi,
David Plastik, T.J. Cloutier, Layne Flack,
Erik Seidel, Allen Cunningham, John Juanda,
Carlos Mortenson, Barry Shulman, Jim Miller,
Warren Karp, Jeff Shulman and the list
goes on.
By
6:15 p.m. the field was down to 59 players
with Layne Flack, Scotty Nguyen, T.J.
Cloutier, Carlos Mortenson, Jeff Shulman,
Jim Miller, John Juanda, Chip Jett, Barry
Shulman and Phil Hellmuth among the casualties.
At
6:30 p.m. the remaining 52 players took
a one hour dinner break. At 7:30 p.m.
play resumed for one last 90 minute level.
The blinds were $200-$400 with a $50 ante.
10
players were eliminated in that fifth
level of play and the 42 remaining players
will redraw for tomorrows seat.
David
Plastik, Mike Laing, Danny Negreanu and
Erik Seidel were still among the survivors.
The
chip leader at the end of day 1was Cleve
Haley with $54,250, Annand Ramdin was
in second with $50,925, Erik Seidel was
in third with $45,650, Toto Leonidas was
in fourth with $45,450, Kirk Conrad was
in fifth with $43,525, William Kirby was
in sixth with $42,100 and Paul Kroh was
in seventh with $40,075.
